Foundational Standards for Professional Dog Trainers

Taking care of a client’s dog is one of the greatest responsibilities we have as professional trainers. At The Dog Wizard, our role goes beyond teaching obedience or improving behavior. We are trusted to care for each dog’s safety, health, emotional state, environment, and overall well-being while they are in our care.

This course is designed to give trainers a strong foundation in canine health, safety, sanitation, nutrition, and emergency awareness. You are not expected to diagnose medical conditions or replace veterinary care, but you are expected to recognize when something may be wrong, take concerns seriously, communicate clearly, and follow the proper procedures to keep dogs safe.

Throughout this course, you will learn about important topics such as vaccines, parasites, common medical concerns, heat and cold safety, wound care, nutrition, sanitation, toxic exposures, safe handling practices, and emergency response expectations.

Balanced training requires more than technique. It requires professionalism, awareness, structure, accountability, and thoughtful decision-making. Every dog is an individual, and every staff member plays a role in creating a safe, clean, calm, and professional training environment.

By the end of this course, you should have a better understanding of how to prevent avoidable risks, identify concerns early, respond appropriately when issues arise, and uphold The Dog Wizard’s standards of care.
